Thank you Bob Flaws for the information on Wu Wei Zi. It is always great to know a few empirical herbs to add to a formula.

".......Wu Wei Zi (Fructus Schisandrae) should be included in the Rx. It seems to have an empirically specific ability to increase vaginal fluids based on Chinese research." cervical mucus increase

I would like to share the great result we got from using: Fertile Garden by Health Concern for my patient, to increase cervical mucus. Her Western Dx is Polycystic Ovarian Ds and she had IUI's and used Clomid prior to coming for acupuncture. She has only used acupuncture treatments for the last 5 months. We started to use Fertile Garden, with an increased dosage between day 7 and 14, which resulted in a large quantity of cervical mucus of "fertile" - eggwhite quality.

dosage and ingredients

Dagmar,

Curious, did your patient pattern fit the formula or was lack of cervical mucous the only sign. I am not the pattern or TCM police. I am curious if this kind of formula is effective for lack of fertile mucous regardless of pattern? (Liver and KD yin) Sang Ji Sheng, Nu Zhen Zi, Bei Sha Shen, Tu Si Zi, Tai Zi Sen, Dang Gui, bai Shao, Gou Qi Zi, Fu Ling, Ashwaganda, Chuan Lian Zi, Zhi Gan Cao, False unicorn root, asparagus

Also, dosage, how many pills per day and how many cycles did it take? i stated a thread on herbal dosages as i am very curious if ready made pills, and powder concentrates are effective. I hear that decoction is the only way to get the daily dosage of each herb but yet myself and so many others are claiming we can get results with powders and pills. Fertile Garden

I use FG frequently in patients with Liver Qi Yu and Ki Yin Xu. It works pretty well. The dosage is 3 pills 3x a day, and if they can't seem to remember that middle dose, then 4 pills 2x a day. That said, Jane's Follicular Phase formula worked really well to increase cervical mucus in a 45 year old patient with more dramatic Ki Yin Xu . IE: she needed more Ki Yin tonifying herbs to get better quality cervical mucus than the Fertile Garden provided.
I don't use raw herbal formulae due to patient compliance and time constraints. I get decent results with the prepared pills, although sometimes I need to increase the dosages. Blue Poppy herbs seem to work very quickly. I think the concentrations of herbs are higher.
